Latin: The Foundation of Academic Excellence
Fundamental to the curriculum at SBCA is the study of Latin. While many schools have dismissed Latin as “irrelevant,” classical schools recognize its true value. Latin enhances the mind in ways no modern subject can. Not only is Latin the basis for the modern Romance Languages, but it also serves as the grammatical backbone of the English language. In fact, the benefits of studying Latin are impactful and measurable:
Over 50% of all English words derive from Latin and 90% of words over two syllables derive from Latin
90% of Spanish, French, and Italian vocabulary is derived from Latin
